Free roster maker
Make a roster in a minute
Type the names, choose when it repeats and how many people you need each time. You get a roster with the turns shared out, ready to print or download. No account, nothing saved.
Your roster appears here
Type the names, choose the first date and how it repeats, then press Make the roster. Each date goes to whoever has had the fewest turns so far, so the turns are shared out and nobody is skipped.
How the turns are shared out
Each date goes to whoever has had the fewest turns so far. When two people are level, the one who has waited longest goes first, then whoever is higher on your list. Nobody is put on the same date twice, and nobody gets a second turn while somebody else is still waiting for a first.
That gives a plain rotation for a simple list, like four people taking the bins in turn. With six people and two needed each Saturday, it also tries not to put the same two together every time.
What to do with it
Print it
Press Print for a clean page with the dates down the side. Pin it up, or choose Save as PDF and send it round.
Put it in a spreadsheet
Download for Excel or Sheets gives you a file that opens in Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets, one row per date.
Keep it live
Make the same roster in FairTurns and it lives on one link. Everyone opens it on their phone, and when you change a date, they see it straight away.
When a printed roster stops being enough
Printed rosters are fine until the first swap. Then there are two versions, someone works from the old one, and you spend Saturday morning on the phone.
A live FairTurns roster does the same job with fewer of those mornings:
- Click a day to add a date, choose how it repeats, and the dates are kept up to 12 months ahead.
- Fill puts people into the empty places, giving each one to whoever has had the fewest turns.
- People mark the days they’re away, and Fill leaves them off those days.
- When somebody joins or leaves, Redistribute shares their dates out again and shows who gains or loses one before anything changes.
- One public link shows the roster to anyone you send it to. No sign-in, nothing to install.
All of that is free, for any number of people. Pro adds the emails: the schedule to the team, a reminder before each date, and finding cover when someone can’t make it.
Questions
Is the roster maker really free?
Yes. There is no account, no limit and nothing to pay. It makes the roster on the page from what you type, and nothing is saved.
How many people can I add?
Up to 60 names and 104 dates at a time, with up to 10 people on each date. For more than that, a live FairTurns roster has no limit.
Can I give people different jobs on the same day?
For named jobs, use the [chore roster maker](/tools/chore-roster-maker), which rotates people through each job. In a live FairTurns roster, set up positions such as Driver and Loader, and Fill shares out each one.
Can someone do more turns than others?
Not in this quick maker: every date goes to whoever has had the fewest turns. In FairTurns Pro, you can set each person to More often, Normal, Less often or Now and then.
Does it work for a rota or a schedule?
Yes. Roster, rota and schedule all mean the same list of who is on and when. There is a [UK rota maker](/tools/rota-maker) with the same engine.
