Works on Nan’s phone, and doesn’t watch anyone
A roster is only useful if everyone can open it: the volunteer with a five-year-old phone, the dad with one bar of signal at the footy ground. FairTurns is built to load anywhere, and it keeps nothing on anyone beyond what the roster needs.

The phone in the back pocket
The Coral Coast Surf Club patrol roster is opened on cracked phones, on the beach, with the sun on the screen and patchy coverage. Some patrol members are fifteen and some are seventy. If the roster takes ten seconds to load, or needs an app nobody can remember the password for, people stop checking it and go back to texting the captain.

FairTurns is a website that works on phones. There’s nothing to download and nothing to update. It loads quickly on a weak connection, works with scripts turned off, and runs in browsers going back to about 2017.
What it doesn’t do
No tracking
Nothing follows people around the web. There are no tracking pixels and no advertising cookies.
No analytics
Nobody counts your clicks or records how long you spent on a page.
No adverts
No ads on the roster, the public link or the emails.
Nothing from other sites
Every part of the page comes from FairTurns itself. No outside fonts, scripts or widgets.
How personal details are handled
- The public roster shows names and dates only. Never email addresses, never away days. You choose how names appear, so initials work for children.
- One email until someone says yes. An address gets exactly one email from FairTurns, the invitation, until a person accepts it.
- Added by name means no email at all. People added by name only are never emailed.
- Away reasons aren’t asked for. Organisers see Away, never why.
- A record of who changed what is kept, so an administrator can see who moved someone off a date.
- Replies go to a person. Reply to a FairTurns email and it reaches whoever made the roster.
Signing in
People who have an account sign in with their email and a password, with a six-digit code sent by email when needed. Anyone who only needs to look at the roster doesn’t need to sign in at all: the public roster link opens straight away.
Good to know
It runs in the phone’s browser. Pages can be added to the home screen like any web page. Reminders arrive by email on Pro, so the roster reaches people without an extra app to install.
All of this applies on the free plan and on Pro alike.
Questions
Does FairTurns work on older phones?
Yes. It works on any phone with a web browser, in browsers back to about 2017, on a weak connection and with scripts turned off.
Does FairTurns track people or show ads?
There is no tracking, no analytics and no advertising, and nothing on the page is loaded from other sites.
Do people need to download an app?
They open it in the phone’s browser. The public roster link needs no sign-in, and people with an account sign in on the website.
Who can see email addresses?
The public roster never shows them. Inside the organisation, administrators manage people and their invitations.
