Choir and band roster
The choir roster for everything around the singing
Rehearsal night needs chairs out, a warm-up, the urn on and the room packed away by ten. FairTurns shares those jobs round your members, week after week, and puts the list on one link.
Free, with no limit on people or dates. No card.
The music is organised. The urn is not.
A community choir of forty people can learn a four-part Rutter arrangement in six weeks, but can’t reliably get the risers out by seven. The director plans the music. Everything else falls to whoever arrives early: unlocking the hall, setting out chairs in sections, leading the ten-minute warm-up when the director is late, boiling the urn for the break, and stacking chairs before the caretaker locks up.
Bands have the same list with heavier lifting: music stands, the percussion trailer, the PA for a gig in the park. A handful of members end up doing it every week, quietly resentful, while newer members don’t know they’re allowed to help.
FairTurns turns that list into a roster. Each job is shared round, people who are away are left off, and everyone can see whose week it is.

How FairTurns runs rehearsal night
Jobs, not members
Make teams for the jobs: Set-up, Warm-up, Supper, Pack-down. The roster tracks who does them, not the membership list or the seating plan.
Rehearsal night set once
Click Wednesday, set each job’s times and choose “Every week on Wednesday”. The year’s rehearsals are there up to 12 months ahead.
Only some lead warm-up
Limit Warm-up to the members who are confident leading it. Everyone else is shared across the jobs anyone can do.
Away weeks
Members mark the weeks they’re away, or “Every first Wednesday of the month” for a regular clash, and Fill leaves them off.
Concerts and gigs
Make a Concert team with positions for front of house, raffle, programmes and stage crew, then add each concert as a one-off date. Fill shares those too.
Turns you can see
The Turns booked chart shows how many jobs each member has, so the regulars can see the load being shared.

When you want it to run itself
Pro emails members who have accepted an invitation a reminder before their job, and sends the schedule to everyone on the day you choose. Someone who can’t make it says so from the email, and the next member in line is asked to bring supper instead.
A$1 a month per organisation, paid 1 to 5 years at a time. See Pro and pricing
Good to know
- Two people for set-up and two for supper suits a choir of thirty to fifty. Pack-down goes faster with everyone, so roster two to lead it and ask the rest to stay ten minutes.
- Members don’t pick their own weeks: FairTurns shares the jobs out, and members see the roster on the link. Anyone can be moved by hand.
- This is a roster of rehearsal jobs. The membership list, subscriptions, sheet music and seating plan stay wherever you keep them now.
- Each date has a name and times only, so put the detail in the job name, such as “Supper: urn, milk, biscuits”.
Questions
Can we roster who hosts sectionals at their house?
Yes. Make a team called Sectional host with a monthly date, such as “Every second Saturday of the month”, and limit it to members who have offered their lounge room.
Does it work for a concert band or a brass band?
Yes. Teams for stands and set-up, the percussion trailer and the gig PA work the same way. Limit the trailer to members who can tow.
Is this a choir roster template I can print?
You can print it. The roster page prints cleanly for the noticeboard, and the public link stays current on phones between printings.
Can the director stay off the jobs list?
Yes. Leave them unticked when you run Fill, or leave them out of the job teams altogether.
What does it cost the choir?
The roster is free, with no limit on members or rehearsals. Pro, with the reminder emails and automatic cover, is A$1 a month for the choir, paid 1 to 5 years at a time.
