Coaching roster

A coaching roster that shares the sessions round

Set the training nights once, list your coaches and what they can run, and FairTurns shares the sessions between them. Trainee coaches get paired with experienced ones, and everyone checks one link.

Free, with no limit on people or dates. No card.

Three coaches carry every session while five others wait to be asked

A club with eight accredited coaches still tends to have three who run almost everything. They’re reliable, they know the drills, and asking them is easier than working out who else is free on a wet Thursday. By mid-season those three are worn out, the trainee coaches haven’t run a warm-up since their course, and the head coach is sending a weekly message that begins “Can anyone take…”.

Sharing the sessions round needs two things: a list everyone can see, and a count of who has done what. FairTurns keeps both. It knows which coaches can lead which group, leaves people off their away weeks, and pairs a lead with an assistant on every session.

An experienced coach and a trainee coach watch an evening training session together beside an athletics track.

How FairTurns runs a coaching group

Lead and assistant on every session

Give each squad positions such as “Lead coach, 1” and “Assistant, 1”, and limit trainees to Assistant until they’re ready to lead.

Training nights set once

Click Tuesday, set 5:30–7:00, choose “Every week on Tuesday”, and the season’s sessions appear on the calendar.

Sessions shared round

Fill gives each place to the coach with the fewest sessions in that position, so the regulars stop doing every night. More on Fill.

Away weeks respected

Coaches mark the weeks they’re away, or “Every second Thursday” for shift workers, and Fill leaves them off.

No coach in two places

Within the club, nobody is put on the sprints and the juniors at overlapping times, even though they’re different teams.

Squads and parents see it

Share the public roster link so athletes and parents know who’s running Saturday’s session.

Pro

When you want it to run itself

Pro lets you set a trainee to Now and then for Lead coach while an experienced coach is set to More often, position by position. Coaches who have accepted an invitation get a reminder before each session, and one who can’t make it says so from the email, so the next coach in line is asked.

A$1 a month per organisation, paid 1 to 5 years at a time. See Pro and pricing

Good to know

  • Pairing a trainee with the same experienced coach for a few weeks, then rotating, gives them a mentor and a range of styles. Put that first pairing on by hand, then let Fill share the rest.
  • Coaches don’t book their own sessions: you set the squads and times, and FairTurns hands the places out. Anyone can be moved by hand.
  • This is a roster of who coaches when. Athlete enrolments, payments and attendance stay in whatever system your club uses for them.
  • Clash checking works inside your club. A coach who also coaches at a school isn’t checked against that roster.

Questions

Can trainee coaches lead sometimes?

Yes. Allow them on the Lead coach position when they’re ready, and on Pro set them to Now and then for leading while they keep a normal share of assisting.

What happens when a coach goes on leave for six weeks?

They mark themselves away for the stretch, up to 92 days. If they were already on some sessions, untick them and run Redistribute over those weeks to hand those to others, and you see each change before it’s made.

Can we roster the coaches for camps and carnival days as well?

Yes. Add the day as a one-off date in the right team, or make a Camps team with the coaching places a camp needs, and Fill shares those out with everything else.

Is this a training schedule for athletes?

It is a roster of coaches and helpers. Athletes can see who is running each session on the public link, and their training content stays with the coach.

What does it cost the club?

The coaching roster is free, with no limit on coaches, squads or sessions. Pro is A$1 a month for the whole club, paid 1 to 5 years at a time.
